Current News Why YPG? In 2007, APA commissioned a task force to study how best to address the growing needs of young planners within the APA, as well as provide a forum for young planners to be a resource to the organization. The report noted that demographic shifts and the retiring Baby Boomer population are creating a need for increased mentoring and succession training; that strategies to engage young planners are rapidly changing; and it identified practices in place by other professional organizations to engage young professionals in more meaningful ways. Since then, several Chapters have started YPGs, and most are experiencing tremendous interest in participation.
What is YPG? The Mission of the Louisiana APA Young Planners Group(YPG) is to provide targeted networking opportunities, professional development and mentoring opportunities, to encourage young planners to take on leadership roles within the state chapter and local sections, and to ensure the continued relevancy of APA to its membership.
Who is YPG? YPG is open to all professional planners and students in Planning and related disciplines throughout Louisiana, with a target audience between the ages of 21 and 35. Experienced planners are encouraged to participate as educators and mentors to YPG members. All young planners and professionals are welcome to attend any YPG event or program across the state (and we won’t ever ask you to disclose your age!). Sign up for YPG by registering athttp://www.louisianaplanning.com/planner-resources/young-professionals.
